First Light is a series of poetic reflections written at the edge of becoming… where rest, remembrance, and return begin.
Before the world ever asked you for proof,
you were whole.
Before your body learned the language of endurance,
before your smile became currency,
before love was confused with usefulness…
you were already enough.
Somewhere along the way,
you began to pour without checking the vessel.
Gave mornings, gave evenings,
gave years that never circled back to you.
Called it loyalty.
Called it love.
Called it survival.
And no one stopped you.
Not because they were cruel…
but because the world is built to receive,
not to protect the giver.
So you kept offering yourself
like light that never learned how to set.
Until the body whispered.
Until it begged.
Until it broke.
This is not condemnation.
This is compassion that tells the truth.
Because a life is not meant to be spent
like loose change in other people’s pockets.
Your breath was never meant to bankroll dreams
that excluded your own becoming.
Rest is not a reward for collapse.
Love is not proven through depletion.
And God did not place light inside you
so the world could dim it and call that devotion.
There is a moment… quiet, unmistakable,
when love turns inward and becomes sacred again.
When choosing yourself is not rebellion,
but remembrance.
This is that moment.
Not tomorrow.
Not after retirement.
Not when the body can no longer recover what was taken.
Now.
While the light is still warm.
While you can still feel it on your skin.
While choosing yourself is an act of faith.
Another beautiful reading reminding us of our own strength.
Thank you so much. Sometimes we just need a gentle reminder of what’s already in us. I’m grateful you felt that here
I found myself somewhere in these words. Thanks for reminding me that my body, mind and spirit that is to be preserved.
That means everything to me. When we remember the body, mind, and spirit are sacred, we start treating our lives (selves) differently. I’m so glad these words found you. 💕
Thank you for this beautiful reflection. I needed this reminder that rest isn’t a luxury, it’s part of who we were always meant to be.
Beautifully expressed.
